Research Compliance & Scientific Integrity
Compliance applies across the entire lifecycle, not at a single point. Complete the Research Regulatory Review before beginning a research project and at least annually to confirm that all required reviews are in place.
ORSP and partner offices support each area below.
Human Subjects Research
- The Institutional Review Board protects the rights and welfare of human participants. Use of eIRB is required for all new research studies involving human participants. Reynolda Campus and School of Medicine each have their own IRB. Reynolda Campus faculty conducting human subjects research should complete the basic CITI Human Research course.
Animal Care and Use
- Reynolda Campus faculty conducting research involving animals must submit a protocol to the School of Medicine Animal Care and Use Committee (ACUC) using eIACUC.
Conflicts of interest, foreign influence, export control and research security
- Disclose financial conflicts of interest as required, and review the university’s guidance on foreign influence on federally funded research — including malign foreign talent recruitment programs, the “Do’s and Dont’s” for faculty and staff, and export control regulations. Consult the Research Security resources for current expectations.
Responsible conduct of research and good clinical practice
- Complete Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) training as required for your role and funding, and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training where applicable to clinical research.
Biosafety, recombinant DNA, and radiation
- Research involving biohazards or radioactive materials must be reviewed by the appropriate safety committee. Recombinant DNA work is overseen by the Institutional Biosafety Committee. The Office of Environmental Health and Safety administers these reviews and the annual Research Regulatory Review.
